What Makes WaterSafe Kenya
So Special

The WaterSafe method works quickly and effectively, as it breaks down a very complex skill into small pieces and builds them up daily through a process known as ‘chaining.’ What we taught your child yesterday is directly linked to what we will teach them today. The lessons are one on one, so just the instructor and your child in the water.

There’s Something About Mary

When I was a little over 1 years old I fell into our swimming pool. One minute I was by the side of the pool and the next thing I was in it, sinking. My father was right there. He could swim but was never able to dive and go underwater. Thankfully I came up enough for him to reach down and pull me up and out of the pool. The very next day there was a fence put round the pool. Until this day, he still talks about it and says it was one of the scariest moments in his life if not The Scariest!! Apparently I was totally unphased and never looked back and was a true water baby!

As a parent of two children, I always felt a bit uneasy about my children’s water safety. Unfortunately, there was nowhere in Kenya that focused on WaterSafe courses. My friend Carol Ngori told me about Brendan Varrie whom she had met in South Africa. He ran B’s Swim School which offered the SwimSafe Course, and when I contacted him he agreed almost at once to come to Kenya and train me to become a WaterSafe Instructor.

Since starting the WaterSafe course here in Kenya in 2019, close to 100 children have completed the WaterSafe Course. My vision for WaterSafe Kenya is to train as many instructors around Kenya to ensure that everyone, not only children, are WaterSafe!
